In a dec 2003 post it says: Other posts indicate it may have changed since then. We were doing emp on eqlive in early 2003. That is what i remember. I am not 100% though.
You can't give pets bane weapons. They are no drop. I don't have any evidence that pets can hit Emp. I've always been under the assumption that pets didn't require bane weapons, but that assumption is purely based on hearsay. But stating that pets require bane weapons to hit Emp is an impossibility.
I've never seen evidence that npc's require banes to hit npc's. I mean that means pets also can't hit oldvampireface in the mountains and someone has to have a log of a pet swinging at him.
Good thinking about Valdanov. Zorblak has a log in which a mage pet spends a significant time fighting him, but has others' hits turned off so who knows. People definitely did send pets in against Emp on AK, though, in all three Emp-killing guilds. So I would say that if you have a log of Emp dying with others' hits on, Torven, and no pet damage is being reported, that's pretty strong evidence that pet melee wasn't connecting.
Can confirm I've used pet for Valdanov Zevfeer, and also have other hits turned off.... sooo yeah glad I could help
Hrm, lots of talk about loading pets up with bane weapons (they're droppable and can be bought from a vendor in Katta) on the Valdanov Alla page, though it's always possible that people just don't know what they're talking about: Interesting note about bash. I wonder if that's true of other special attacks?
Should be. I farmed LiS and Emp on Live on my monk with a couple Flying Kicks, because I wasn't interested in spending the time and bag space on bane weapons. Since kicking (or bashing, etc.) isn't based on your weapon damage, you can't get "Bane Shissar" boots or shields or shoulders, the attacks are flagged to work regardless.
'is INVULNERABLE' is filtered out by other's misses, not hits, so it's even rarer to find in logs than other's hits. I have a fight of Valdanov with misses on in logs, but no pet was used. Also, not all special attacks ignore the bane requirement: eqlog_Fanglore_52_cleaned[65WAR].txt 1878203 [Tue Jul 24 22:40:33 2012] You try to kick Emperor Ssraeshza , but Emperor Ssraeshza is INVULNERABLE! I think Sony may have coded them individually by skill and class; I see lots of messages of Fanglore punching immune NPCs, suggesting that his magic gloves were not making his punches connect while he was swapping weapons. Or did monks also not get magic punches for wearing magic gloves and that was a later addition?
Also: On Live right now, using a level 25 SK, magic gloves make my punches hit willowisps and bashes with non-magic shields do not hit. I'm starting to think that Sony changed the invulnerability logic not long after PoP.
hmm, actually warrior kicks are using the mainhand's bane check: [Sun Mar 10 18:56:53 2013] You slash Lord Inquisitor Seru for 118 points of damage. [Sun Mar 10 18:56:53 2013] You kick Lord Inquisitor Seru for 18 points of damage.
Yeah I didn't look closely enough. Emp fight, other's hits on, two beastlord pets procing spells on Emp with no melee damage from them. Pets can't hit.

Monk fists are magic past a certain level iirc. The new combat 2h miss rate feels way better - 2 thumbs up.
Petmaster I may be but on AK I played like 4am-7amcst and was mainly just me and some foreigners online, I never killed lis/emp/anything in vel/etc I had a VT key but never did emp or even a key for emp... /snicker
Can anybody familiar with low level pets on AK verify if the information listed on the Project 1999 wiki is accurate to our era? https://wiki.project1999.com/Pet_Guide I'm referring specifically to the double attack, dual wield and innate dual wield level thresholds.
Did Holyforge grant criticals on non-undead? I can't find any in logs from paladins known to not have combat fury, but the data is very thin.
Did manlee submit any logs? I know he was around early maybe a destineer can poke him on the forums and ask.
I've seen this functionality on live. I am missing Combat Fury on Agnarr, and have seen critical messages on non-Undead. Not sure if it applies here. Also of note is that crits show the non-MOTM value of the attack.
I believe that the functionality may have been changed to hit non-undead when they softcoded disciplines just prior to GoD
http://web.archive.org/web/20020816...sword=&Monthnum=07&Monthstring=July&Year=2001 It should grant Crippling Blows on Undead and I think Criticals on Live mobs? This is from July 2001 Archive.
I don't recall seeing paladins using Holyforge as a DPS disc against non-undead mobs on AK. Looking through a few logs, all the instances of it triggering I can find are against horses in PoFire and undead in CoD.
Zorblak does have a log in which Thoran triggers holy light against Lady Mirenilla in NToV that shows no critical hits from him at all. He's got other hits off, but crits are on (they're reporting for other toons) and she's a rooted bellycaster, so Zorb is standing on top of her for the whole fight.
Dunno how helpful this is, but here is a comment from Dec 6 2000 (at http://www.ttlg.com/forums/showthread.php?t=5815 ). Though I don't have the actual patch notes being quoted, that sounds like Vancouvering and strongly suggests that Holyforge originally only crit undead. When it was changed to being able to crit anything, I have no idea.
I seem to remember a paladin using greatblade of chaos and getting some big crits against potime vallon zek on live. It stands out because it was the first time I ever saw the disc doing something against non-undead. It was either very late PoP or early GoD, so I'd guess you're right torven, that it was new with the disc overhaul.
Nice links. How are you guys finding this stuff? Holyforge granted cripples on non-undead when the Paladin has Combat Fury. That was easy to spot in 2002 and AK logs. I think this is settled now. Thanks for the help.
Is anybody familiar with how slay undead damage was calculated on AK? Logs aren't matching Live or the 2006 formulae I've found online. I don't have any paladin logs from other people either.
