Last night I was doing a P1 Earth Trial in Plane of Time. I beat my mob down a little too quickly and when it got to 10%, I switched to H2H so that I wouldn't kill it too soon. My hands did not land any damage and I did not get a single skillup. I was swinging for a very long time and not a single skillup. Here is an example of what it looked like:

[Tue Feb 13 20:47:33 2024] You try to punch a pile of living rubble, but a pile of living rubble is INVULNERABLE!
[Tue Feb 13 20:47:34 2024] a pile of living rubble was hit by non-melee for 15 points of damage.
[Tue Feb 13 20:47:34 2024] A pile of living rubble smashes YOU for 350 points of damage.
[Tue Feb 13 20:47:34 2024] a pile of living rubble was hit by non-melee for 15 points of damage.
[Tue Feb 13 20:47:34 2024] A pile of living rubble smashes YOU for 232 points of damage.
[Tue Feb 13 20:47:35 2024] You try to punch a pile of living rubble, but a pile of living rubble is INVULNERABLE!

Can I get a skillup on a mob that is flagged invulnerable to H2H damage? I think I should be able to...

Also, I found evidence on my AK logs that I was able to land punches (and gain skillups) punching a Rathe Councilman. I was going to conclude that magic gloves = able to land attack with H2H. I looked at my logs a bit further and I see it's not as simple as that-- the mobs were a mixed bag.

Below is an AK example of punching a Rathe Councilman (and getting skillups):

[Tue Feb 5 22:42:52 2013] You try to punch A Rathe Councilman, but miss!
[Tue Feb 5 22:42:52 2013] You have become better at Hand to Hand! (16)
[Tue Feb 5 22:42:52 2013] You punch A Rathe Councilman for 14 points of damage.
[Tue Feb 5 22:43:14 2013] You have become better at Hand to Hand! (17)
[Tue Feb 5 22:43:14 2013] You punch A Rathe Councilman for 16 points of damage.
[Tue Feb 5 22:43:14 2013] You punch A Rathe Councilman for 14 points of damage.
[Tue Feb 5 22:43:14 2013] A Rathe Councilman tries to hit YOU, but YOU riposte!
[Tue Feb 5 22:43:14 2013] You try to punch A Rathe Councilman, but miss!
[Tue Feb 5 22:43:14 2013] You try to punch A Rathe Councilman, but miss!
[Tue Feb 5 22:44:34 2013] You have become better at Hand to Hand! (18)
[Tue Feb 5 22:44:34 2013] You punch A Rathe Councilman for 17 points of damage.
[Tue Feb 5 22:44:34 2013] A Rathe Councilman tries to hit YOU, but YOU riposte!
[Tue Feb 5 22:44:34 2013] A Rathe Councilman hits YOU for 535 points of damage.
[Tue Feb 5 22:44:34 2013] A Rathe Councilman tries to hit YOU, but misses!
[Tue Feb 5 22:44:35 2013] You avoid the stunning blow.
[Tue Feb 5 22:44:43 2013] You have become better at Hand to Hand! (19)
[Tue Feb 5 22:44:43 2013] You punch A Rathe Councilman for 16 points of damage.
[Tue Feb 5 22:44:43 2013] You punch A Rathe Councilman for 19 points of damage.

Here is Ali the Elder on AK being invulnerable to H2H:

[Sun Dec 2 15:27:01 2012] You try to punch Ail the Elder, but Ail the Elder is INVULNERABLE!

Here is an example of a Plane of Time AK mob being invulnerable to H2H:

[Mon Dec 3 23:09:43 2012] You try to punch Xerskel Gerodnsal, but Xerskel Gerodnsal is INVULNERABLE!

I thought I had tried Hand to Hand against the Rathe Council here on TAKP, but I don't have a record of it.

Also, it seems that not all mobs here on TAKP are flagged invulnerable to H2H:

Here's an example of me on TAKP landing a punch on Blob 1 and getting my last H2H skillup:

[Wed Aug 23 20:35:02 2023] You have become better at Hand to Hand! (3)
[Wed Aug 23 20:35:02 2023] You have been healed for 6 points of damage.
[Wed Aug 23 20:35:02 2023] You punch Kaas Thox Xi Ans Dyek for 9 points of damage.

Thus, it doesn't seem clearcut that Magic Gloves = able to land magic attacks (as some mobs on AK you could land punches on and some you could not). There's at least one thread discussing this murkiness: https://www.takproject.net/forums/i...and-to-hand-attacks-broken.24270/#post-115870

Anyhow, it seems a bug that I cannot get a skillup on an invulnerable mob. Is that a bug or working as intended?

I don't see how hitting invuln mobs would or should get you skillups?

guess someone would need to show logs of proof where they are hitting invul mobs and getting skillups...

I’ll search, but I don’t see why you couldn’t. Is that how it’s always been? I believe you can get defensive skillups while invulnerable, so why not an offensive skillup when your target is invulnerable?

Checked all of my AK logs for war for "you have become better" and I don't have a record of gaining a skillup attacking an invulnerable mob. This thread should probably be moved out of bugs and into a general forum.

My initial thought was that you couldn't skill up on invuln mobs. We may have some mobs flagged incorrectly though - if you find a npc that should (or shouldn't) be invuln to non-magic melee we have a checkbox in the DB for that specifically.

edit: I checked the "immune to non-magical melee" box for Ail the Elder, the potime named already had it set.
