It is amazing how many mobs memwipe themselves in the Elemental planes, is this right? I can't remember there being this many on live. In particular in Plane of Air and Plane of Earth.
I don't get how this mechanic is so common. It feels quite broken. You dont know if mobs blurred due to navmesh z-axis issues, or intended mechanic. But you do know when everyone wipes over and over for seemingly no reason, and you get to yell at wrong people for screwing things up, when it's nobody's fault (except the enchanter who is on Quarm's payroll who chain casts Reocurring Amnesia but nobody knows hehehehehehehe)
Some examples: Most minies/bosses in PoAir (nothing like a silencing, 3500 proccing spider that memwipes randomly) Guardian of Doomfire Tantisala Jaggedtooth It seems entirely random as well. It almost feels like there is a commonality with large mobs or mobs that jump (demon type mobs) or float (elementals). Or a wall/corner thing?
PoAir is most likely correct; I remember that memwipe was a common and deliberate mechanic there. (There was a prominent guildleader who wrote about it back in the day--Thott perhaps? I believe he praised it as one of the few design decisions that resulted in challenging but winnable encounters, as opposed to simply ramping up damage output. I can't seem to find his writings now, though.) Can confirm Tantisala Jaggedtooth too: [Sun Nov 09 23:37:20 2003] Heggen tells the guild, 'this one mem blurs btw' [Sun Nov 09 23:54:30 2003] Tantisala Jaggedtooth hits Duglas for 735 points of damage. Avatar of Wind: [Tue Nov 11 21:57:11 2003] Heggen tells riphunts:4, 'so how tough is this avatar?' [Tue Nov 11 21:57:27 2003] Heggen tells riphunts:4, 'probably tougher then the pherlondin dude' [Tue Nov 11 21:57:37 2003] You tell riphunts:4, 'think they're all supposed to be relatively easy...' [Tue Nov 11 21:57:42 2003] Malse tells riphunts:4, 'just memblurs' [Tue Nov 11 21:58:06 2003] Kanibal tells riphunts:4, 'this is smoke?' [Tue Nov 11 21:58:11 2003] You tell riphunts:4, 'Wind' [Tue Nov 11 21:58:14 2003] Heggen tells riphunts:4, 'ya wind' Other avatars in Air: [Tue Dec 09 00:54:50 2003] Malse tells the raid, 'like all other avatars he quads 2k and blurs randomly ' Peregrin Rockskull: [Wed Dec 03 23:10:56 2003] Malse tells the raid, 'Peregrin Rockskull blurs, so watch for who actually has aggro' Pherlondien Clawpike: [Tue Nov 25 22:36:21 2003] Duglas slashes Pherlondien Clawpike for 57 points of damage. [Tue Nov 25 22:36:21 2003] Karmahn tells the guild, 'it mem blurs, relax' [Tue Nov 25 22:36:23 2003] Duglas tells the guild, 'hes a blur er'
More annoying than anything. Just something else to get used to. Poor warriors without their taunt up.
Just wait to have 20 mobs simultaneously memblur on you during Coirnav. Or some mobs memblurring 5 times in 6 seconds. EPs are fun stuff!
