Alligators in Feerott - Mage Focus Items

So, I am sat on the ramp to CT waiting for Alligators to spawn and run past me and its not happening.

According to Allaclone the Broom etc drops from Alligators in the Feerott, although some people on the internet are suggesting killing gators in CT itself.

My questions are ..

1) Are the focus items worth it for a mage that is going to get PL'd up past 50 asap?
2) Where is the best place to farm these items? ie location of the gators.

Given the number of mages I see on here, someone must know please

 

Focus effects don't work on pets past 49 from those items. If you're PLing past 50 quick they aren't exceptionally useful. Though two are used in the epic quest which is extremely useful.

Farm these in Najena instead of Feerott.

I was in Najena, not a lot of mobs that drop it and it seems rare. Any advice on a good spot in Najena? I may just leave it as I can't see myself getting the epic.

 

I like doing the crystal room, najena's room and rathyl/ekeros area in a lazy sweep

 

A tracker helps, dark boned skeletons, magicians, and the high elf and halfling prisoners all drop them
