Hello, Does anyone know the actual math behind a backstab for aggro generation? It seems a slippery thing to me because there is most certainly a damage component that is at play but I also see mobs flipping on me in groups when I use backstab and miss. Which makes me think that there is a standard hate application seperate from the damage. Has any figured out the raw numbers behind this?
I don't know specifically how backstab works, but all other melee the damage is completely irrelevant for aggro calculations. A miss generates the same aggro as a max damage crit. I would assume there is a flat aggro per backstab based on the weapon damage, but I am not sure what the numeric value of that is.
https://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?item=17759 Allakhazam posts backstab damage on items. I assume aggro generation is the same so with an Ifir, a normal swing is 31 aggro and a backstab is 49 aggro.
Pretty sure BS damage wasn't added until after PoP. Only thing I've ever seen mentioning specific values for agro involve spell details on certain weapon procs.
My working theory, without diving too far into complicated math, is that a backstab with a 20 damage mainhand weapon is worth 140 hate. With a 20 damage dagger, backstab is a weapon swing equivalent to a 140 damage weapon, with no damage bonus. What we're unclear on is if there is a bonus for landing the hit or not, since standard melee hate generation is weapondamage+damagebonus per swing.
