Lull changes

My anecdotal thoughts:

Pacify resists: I agree the resist code is way too forgiving here. Playing an dwarf paladin way back, I remember asking for CHA buffs at times to improve pacify chances. Breaking a full room was always a cringe worthy event on the first couple of casts. I've used lull line from 15 to 60 here on my dwarf paladin, and I *think* maybe I've had 1 resist the whole way?

Bash interrupt: My recollection was that level 55 and below mobs could be interrupted 100% of the time with a successful bash/slam. Kick was far less successful. I vaguely remember melee saying that once PC level was 55+, the kick turned into a 100% interrupt as well on below 55 NPCs. 55+ NPCs could still be interrupted with bash/slam, but it wasn't 100%.

Melee push interrupt: I remember very clearly on HoT raids that gaters would not be cornered so that melee could stack on one side and push. There was no way to stun them, and gates were relatively rare (maybe a couple a night). So, something was interrupting them. Whether it was actually kick/slam/bash and not the push, I couldn't say. Common consensus though was push. Melee push definitely feels too good at interrupting here though. Fighting priest snakes in Ssra, it seems paladin 2H and 1 enchanter animation melee is enough to 100% interrupt CH.

Stun push: Is the push from spells documented in published data (are we sure it is correct)? Words of Tranquility seems to push half as much as I remember, but I mostly remember using the higher level words of serenity, so maybe there's a difference in push between the two?

 

I did notice something strange regarding NPC gates: they seem to often fail (perhaps more often than they don't) even when the spell is not interrupted, resulting in the NPC casting the spell repeatedly with no interrupt message. Sony may have had some sort of special logic for this spell. This happens even when the NPC is not hit very much so I doubt displacement is the the cause or at least the sole cause. Sony did count the number of hits against the target when casting spells to determine interrupt chances.

an ancient guardian wurm is clearly stun immune, and I do see them gate in logs, but they'll probably gate too often if I don't add something.

 

I thought that's when the mob was out of mana or something. When you mana drain them so they have no mana to gate, they'll keep casting the spell but failing.
Or could be something else.

 

Hmm, looks like that's the cause. Strange how they're still 5 seconds apart if they didn't actually start casting

I did notice that a lot of wurms had run out of mana. Frosst's group was sieving them because clearly they were not interrupting them very often. I'll have to check the combat mana regen on NPCs to make sure it's not too high.

 

Maybe mobs have a min interval between checks to cast gate of 5 sec?

While we are on the subject, cleric trash mobs in ssra are channeling through bash while casting CH. I haven't seen any other spells being channeled through a successful bash. I am nearly certain that a successful bash on AK would interrupt CH with 100 percent success rate on trash snakes in Ssra. Based on my experience on TAKP, I don't think I have successfully bashed a CH into interruption once. Every other spell seems to interrupt instantly on a successful bash. Which is a bit puzzling, almost like there is a special category for CH.

 

shissar priests and templars are higher lvl than 55, so same stun immunity rules should apply as other high lvl mobs and for all spells
gotta use push / melee to interrupt (until next patch), or use high lvl mez spells or special paladin stuns

 

I don't know how many times I have to say this: non-stunning bashes can still interrupt, it's just not a 100% chance.

The logic we're currently using for PCs vs. NPCs is this:

which is something I came up with in 2015 but the confidence in this is low. This kind of data is very time consuming to dig from logs. I had checked how often my Paladin's bashes interrupted level 60ish NPCs and came up with 15 times out of 35 hits; that plus some user's comments in a thread is how I came up with that. That could be too generous for all I know. (wouldn't be surprised)

I honestly don't know if bash stuns should still land on level 56+ NPCs. I'm not sure that's provable since non-stunning bashes still interrupt.

 

They were bash interruptible on AK, they should be here too.

 

I'm not seeing any mention of spells such as the lvl 64 Wizard spell: Telekin which could stun 55+ mobs (up to level 65) as well as bypass various general stun immunities for example stun all Kunark giants, Velious wurms, and pretty much any stun immune named that wasn't a raid boss, though I do recall in the case of giants/wurms the stun was mitigated to 4 or 6 seconds.

 

I must be missing something, Torven. I don't see any evidence in your logs that says pushing mobs should have zero effect on NPC interrupts. It was pretty common knowledge that for mobs like HoT wurms, pushing or sieving was the best strategy. Even so, pushing was never a 100% chance to interrupt and there was always the occasional mob gate or CH.

Your logs also support the idea that pushing gives a chance to interrupt, although never 100%, which is much more consistent with my recollection, and evidently that of others here as well.

I'll agree that the current code is broken and it's far too easy to interrupt with pushing, but it should not be impossible.

Observations:

* Interestingly virtually all (if not all) the interrupts on VT mobs from melee were on knights. Some of them weren't even hit much.
* Pets were not interrupting Zuns and higher, but they were interrupting Quas and Zovs (mind you these are PoP pets even)
* PC bashes clearly interrupt less on higher level NPCs. I did find some bashes on Zuns that did not interrupt spells. (these are level 65 PCs remember)
* Now I know why air pets were used in VT instead of water pets.

Concerning this:
* Level difference modifier removed for Lull spell resist rolls. This still needs more research and may change again.

More or less resists after this? Not sure if the modifier was helping or hurting us before and was vague on it.
Also, i'm assuming Harmony of Nature is not affected or changed.

 

That seems a bit aggressive. Would you consider a more subtle change? Perhaps decreasing the difference modifier and then reevaluating?

 

Nothing gets people researching like several deaths to critical lull resists.

 

Plan ahead. Camp that coth bot first.

 

Corpse runs build character.

Some of the most fun I had on this server was in the low 40s on my trio when I wiped at Efreeti in Sol B. I spent 2-3 days and probably 15 more deaths recovering those corpses by crawling up with no gear.

 

I found a lull resist in a log with a cast on a mob 6 or 7 levels under the caster, which would have been impossible with our logic. As I said in the notes, more changes are likely. (which could mean a less impactful nerf) I'm going to work more on this today.

Aggro chance at max charisma is less than 2% per cast, so it's not exactly making the spells useless.

 

Does this affect HoN? Because the harmony line has always been a much safer bet on live than pacify line.

Dev server changes don't always go live. I should have waited before putting that change in as it didn't take long to disprove. Actually I think I may have goofed and the cast I found earlier was within 5 levels. I'm going to spend all day looking at this to be sure. I didn't have these logs in 2015.

Admittedly us devs are too eager to nerf this ability.

I looked at this carefully and it seems our current lull resist logic is accurate, so that's not going to change. I screwed up and didn't look closely enough before opening my mouth. I always check much more carefully than that before pushing code live though.

 

On a total side note... I know everything but classic type zones are unavailable for dev server now but I tried to log in the other day and it wasn’t working....

Is it still live and working? I followed the procedure I had done before which was just switching the .net to .org or whatever it is but it wouldn’t log in.

Has anything changed? Or am I just an idiot and doing something wrong lol
