I want to use my desktop and laptop for true boxing instead of using multiple windows on the same machine. Is this possible/allowed? Can I box two characters from the same account or would I need a second account for the second character?

Yes, it's allowed. Boxing is boxing regardless of what machines are being used. The IP will all be your WAN IP anyways, I think, unless you have one on a phone hotspot or something.

    One forum account.

You can make up to 10 game accounts under your single forum account.

Ok. I had to ask because in another thread someone had an issue with playing with coworkers on the same LAN and it was mentioned that special permission was needed for that. I thought it might apply to boxing on multiple machines, too.

Only 3 connections (+1 trader) are allowed from the same public IP (whatismyip.com) address without an exemption. Exemptions are for multiple people playing from the same public IP. So, if you are only playing 3 characters, each of of them could be on different computers for example in your household.
