Windows TAKP Launcher

Windows TAKP Launcher

  1. Speedz
Coming soon for PC, the TAKPLauncher for OSX clone.
I am currently porting the OSX Launcher over to Windows.

As you notice it looks nearly exactly like the OSX Launcher.
Even has the top bar and close/minimize with OSX effects on mouse over.
The only visual difference is the menu bar at the bottom and the donate button is different.

The current screen shot on the OSX resource page is slightly outdated. I will update that eventually.

This is designed and developed by Speedz.
    UI graphics by Lenas.

Currently it is not required to use this to log onto TAKP, it just makes it easier.

Feature list for the initial release..

Selections in the app menu bar at the bottom:
    • Donate

    • Backup User Data
    • Restore User Data

    • Delete User Data
    • Delete Backup Data

    • Delete Selected Name
    • Delete Name List

    • Save Passwords toggle
    • Delete Passwords

    • Reload Hosts
Selections in the app icon by the clock:
    • Backup User Data
    • Restore User Data

    • Delete User Data
    • Delete Backup Data

    • Delete Selected Name
    • Delete Name List

    • Quit

    • Usernames for 1 click login
    Now to describe these selections,

    Donate:
This opens a donate box where you enter a numerical amount and click the button.
It auto opens a web page and you can continue from there.
This is separate from TAKP donations.

    UPDATE:
Please leave a note in your donation that this came through the launcher.
All donations will be split 4 ways now.
cavedude, robregen, haynar, torven, and myself. Haynar opted out.
This in no way is associated with the server and is 3rd party donations for the launcher itself.

    Now for the rest:

You can backup all your ini settings from your EverQuest folder with a single click in this app.
No more opening up Explorer to look for them.
This is also the same for restoring. On backup it saves a copy of everything character ini based in your EQ folder into a Launcher support folder.

Delete is pretty self explanatory. If you delete them with this, they are NOT recoverable if you delete both at once.
Should you want to revert your EQ to default, all you need to do is delete User files and rerun client (but if you delete them all, launch the client in full screen).

For names, (selected name and name list) this program will save in an nearly unlimited capacity, all names you successfully login with.
As well as allow you to delete all or a selected name (the name in the box)

If you select "Save Passwords" it will also save the passwords in a hashed format so no clear text passwords exist on your system.

Also if save passwords is selected, the icon menu will list all names you have logged in with.
It will allow you to click the name and log right in.
No need to re-enter anything in the fields.
It auto fills in the data and logs right in.

You can also select a name from the dropdown in the username field. This will auto populate the password and allow you login here, or change the password that is saved.

Any time a new password is typed, it is saved/updated if save is selected.

WARNING: If you have a saved list and you uncheck save passwords. It will delete all passwords. Not recoverable.

The feature I like the best is it auto pulls approved servers from TAKP and populates the Current Host dropdown. This gives a new form of server select.
You no longer have to edit anything to log into dev!
Just select the .org in the list and log on.

Unlike the old PC method, you can select the server before you login.
You just type/click, select server and connect.

Note: Server (host) is not saved by account name.
You still have to change selection there if you are logging into a server in the list that is not TAKP.

This app also does a check for newer versions.
It won't allow itself to run past a dialog letting you know there is a new version available.
So this will reduce any potential corruption of saved files and anything else if core functions change.

The updater will give you the option to download the new version.
It will auto close itself on either selection.
But if yes is clicked, it will open your Windows Explorer after it downloads so you can extract the zip into the desired place that you run it from (over write the old version).

You will need to allow this app to connect to TAKP in order to use it.
It needs the connection to get the server list and various other things to operate.

    Installer Check!
This will also check to see if EverQuest is installed in the correct spot.
If not, it will prompt you to locate it.

It expects EverQuest to be in the C:/EQMac folder by default.
But you can tell it to look elsewhere.
Once it finds it, you can continue and use the launcher.

    Potential planned features:
    • Account name aliasing.
By request, a means to obscure actual names displayed.
Useful for desktop streaming, playing in a public space, or just for simplicity.

    • Per server user/pass/alias
A means to duplicate alias and user names that allow different passwords per server.

    • A user UI file fixer.
OSX had a nasty habit of corrupting these on AK.
This is client side and effects us too.
I suspect that it sometimes writes the UI files incorrectly.
I'll spare you the nerd talk,
but I think we can fix this externally through a read and rewrite in the correct format.

    • A graphical (window) interface to edit any and all ini settings.
      User and game master ini.

    • A graphical (window) that allows you to copy your UI layout to another character.

    • A paid app version for the phone (IOS first, but willing to try Android too).
This will allow you to launch EQ on your computer via phone.
As well as maybe a swipe on the phone changing boxed instances.
I am not 100% sure how doable this is yet. But I plan to look into it.
    • A network aware feature that will share user and pass lists between computers on the same local network.
(It will never send out passwords outside the local net and never in clear text form.)
This will allow you to not have to re-enter user info for every machine you run EQ on.
It will include the OSX version should that happen as well.
