If you set an account as trader, can you still play on that account or is it only used for trading? Also, if you set an account for trader, can you change it later or is it permanent?

Did you flag the wrong account? Because, no, you can't do anything on a trader flagged account. Can't gain exp or anything. And I believe it's completely non reversible.
You can have any number of characters that are traders on any account, but since they are normal accounts it will be limited to 3 online at the same time. The trader game account just allows you to have it logged on while you have your normal 3 accounts logged on at the same time. So, 3 normal + trader online.
