Kurns dries up by 20 and I need to get a Cleric to 29. All suugestions gratefully received. I have an ENC and DRU available.
I do 1-10ish in Kurns 10ish-35ish in Unrest 35ish-46 in Lower Guk I prefer undead mobs since they don’t flee but even in Guk they will flee. Doing 35-45 may be faster in HHK due to the high ZEM but I’ve never been a fan of trashing factions generally. Plus HHK was the go to grouping spot for new players in the level range on AK and it was considered disrespectful to PL here when players were trying to level their first characters. But there was normally plenty of opportunities to PL there when it was empty regardless.
This is precisely what I usually do. LGuk is slower than other zones I'm sure, but it also is beneficial if you are ever going to do the crown of deceit quest on that toon anyway. Everyone needs the faction to do it.
I do 1-16 in kurns, 16-34 in hhk 34-40 droga - 40-54 grimling infinity spawn was the best path ive had so far.
I like to do Kaesora after Kurns. It can take you all the way to 40 but usually slows down in the mid 30's. Break the zone into three pieces (library, spiders, church) and pull them to the zone in. Once you get good at it you can kill everything in the zone with a minute or two of downtime. As a bonus, you get your xalgoz fang for HS.
Off topic a bit, but I would recommend going to 30 for specialization. I did this a while back and it took about 1 day. I went Blackburrow to 8 and then turned in gnoll fangs to ding 10 or eleven, Kurns to 16, PC to 24, Highkeep to 30.
This thread compelled me to powerlevel an alt Id been slowly dropping gear on in PoK that was still level 1. Including about 30 PBAE Holgresh Wands Went to Kurns, pulled all of first floor skeletons, used 2-3 clicks of a wand and that train got me to level 4.5 Pulled all the upstairs skeletons and got to level 10. So if your toon has some holgresh AE wands or has AE spells you can get 1-10 in just 1 clearing of the main and top floor of kurns. Went to Unrest and got to level 20 after 2 pulls of yard and first floor and 1 pull of the top floor. Then inbetween many AFKs I grouped my 20 beastlord with a 19 wizard and managed to get around 1 level per pull of either the basement or the top floor for both characters up until level 30. Ended up spending rest of the night skilling up melee skills and casting skill. If you’re PLing a single character though I think Kurns->Unrest can get you 1-40 in a day given you have a decent druid or healer + tank with non-Damage primary and some form of DS.
Funny, I was just PLing a wizard over the weekend. Here's the path I took. That's a neat trick with the holgresh wands, Darchon. They work from inventory for any class? I've always started in Kurns -> Sol A (though I hear Unrest is just as good), and I suspect that the infinite Grimling pile is best from there. On Al'Kabor (where it may have contained more mobs) it certainly was, and I kept a level 56 wizard just for the purpose of PLing from 37-51 or so there. BRD/DRU is probably the best class combo for DS PLing.
They do work from inventory for any class. Best way to do an AE/DS PL for a melee class for those early levels. And the recharge cost is suuuuper low, like 5 plat per wand.
They do indeed work from inventory by any class. The Holgresh in Wakening Lands can drop 1 of 4 wands. Two are PBAE and two are single target. The PBAE wands use Cast Force and Flame Flux and are clickable at level 1. They’re actually quite respectable damage until level 20 or so. About 80-100 per target per click. In the process of farming about 300~ furs and wings for tinkering, which somehow netted me only 2 skillups (still raging over this), I was able to pick up about 40 of the PBAE wands. Which I stored up just to PL this beastlord. Then I decided I was lazy and would just group the beastlord with a wizard and not use any charges after going through only 2 wands to get to level 20. Sol A is also great but I find people tend to favor slaying gnomes which I can generally get behind but I like to avoid faction hits, and I think Unrest can carry you higher than the Sol A goblins can alone. But in the high teens to mid thirties I believe both of these are good camps for PLing. I’ve also found that in LGuk due to the interrupt code we have, it’s far more efficient to CH my Paladin and accept the 10 lower DS than try to tank on my druid. It’s mind boggling how easily normal melee hits interrupt from green cons. I’ll go from 100-dead and see probably 20 heal interrupts while corner tanking a train of frogs.
This. I have been using a 50 druid (because it is all I have) and any more than 3 or 4 mobs from Unrest basement is asking to die. That would be different at 60 ofc but still I would think Unrest is the cut off for any kind of Druid DS tanking unless you have insane gear. I was just about to ask how you would do classes with no AE, apart from making a throwaway BRD to group with them. Nice tip there.
I would say just make a level 1 wizard along with whatever class you'll be plvling to bring along, then just drop the wizard around level 40.
I haven't done very much power leveling in EQ, but I'm pretty sure I'm learning some good info here. Thanks for all the tips so far. I think I understand the gist of using FD to PL, but there's a couple of the details I'm kinda hazy on still if anyone can clear those up. Are there any issues with the necro doing too much damage, or continuing to do damage after FD, say with a DoT maybe? Also, what are the conditions that remove the FD char from the exp list, does every successful FD do that?
You're slightly missing it -- you stay FD, and pet does it all. Then no damage at all is attributed to the necro. DoTs definitely re-agro after a successful FD, though I'm not sure of the damage assignment mechanics. If someone has done a highly-in-depth analysis of damage assignment in relation to FD, I'd be interested to read that also though. There were some bugs in the past with still taking raid faction hits even when FDed, and I never got around to investigating in depth.
