    Is this something deemed necessary for balance? I know this is how Live EQ currently functions but on AK it was not. What we have currently is the AKurate implementation of Lull vs Lull immune mobs.

    On AK it was used rarely at the end to grief people due to the perma pacify bug making pacify immune mobs have infinite assist radius if you tried to pacify them. We don’t have this bug though so this isn’t an issue.

    But it was also used to aggro mobs you couldn’t see which can be done just as easily with a pet, so I’m not sure I see any balance issue here in this change.

    Full disclosure I generally use Pacify to pull Praesertum so that I don’t risk eating a banish and having to run back. If this changes it’s not a big deal I’ll probably just send a pet and do the same thing. But that’s about the only area I try to pacify immune mobs to aggro them. Not sure if someone is using it for something more worthy of a nerf, but I can’t think of anything so egregious to warrant going inAKurate.

    I'm more concerned about the NPC casting interruption changes. Where did this come from?


    * NPCs will no longer have casts interrupted from being pushed. (stuns will of course still work)
    * NPCs are now considerably harder to interrupt with melee.



    how the heck are you supposed to interrupt unstunnable mobs

    Not according to the enchanter log I looked at, which shows fails like this:

    [Fri Feb 1 01:33:04 2013] You begin casting Pacify.

    And shows no signs of aggroing after each fail. If you can explain how it functioned with more detail, I'm all ears.

    Our channeling code was very old stock EQEmu code pulled out of the air and was inaccurate. NPCs play by different rules. (old Rashere comments verify this) I went on Live just to see how it's done there and I could not interrupt a level 12 NPC wielding a combine dagger + efreeti standard after 30 minutes of melee and 330 casts. Of course they aren't pushed there, but the hits themselves trigger rolls. That NPC regained concentration 100% and most hits didn't trigger a channeling roll at all. I also tried casting push spells which prevented nothing.

    AK logs were used as my primary source as you would expect however. Interrupts were possible but rare and extremely rare at high levels. Some examples:

    level 73 ranger NPC
    Emmerik Skyfury begins to cast a spell. (150)
    Emmerik Skyfury regains concentration and continues casting. (18; 12%)
    Emmerik Skyfury's casting is interrupted! (1; 0.6%)

    level 70
    Cazic Thule begins to cast a spell. (269)
    Cazic Thule regains concentration and continues casting. (45; 16.7%)
    Cazic Thule's casting is interrupted! (12; 4.5%)

    level 67
    Auliffe Chaoswind regains concentration and continues casting. (36; 23.3%)
    Auliffe Chaoswind's casting is interrupted! (no sign of stun) (2; 1.3%)

    level 66
    Praesertum Matpa begins to cast a spell. (53)
    Praesertum Matpa regains concentration and continues casting. (15; 28%)
    (no interrupts)

    NPC stun immunity is actually somewhat rare. If you find stun immune NPCs that look like they shouldn't be, you should probably bring those to my attention. I fixed some erroneously flagged NPCs in vexthal yesterday.

    Bash can still interrupt stun immune NPCs, btw.

    PC channeling is now using code found in a client decompile, so the accuracy on that is rather high. In fact it indicates that the channeling focus AA is so good that it leaves me wondering, but it's such strong evidence that I can't ignore it.

    The examples that you used are raid mobs, that are typically corner tanked and not pushed I assume. Normal trash that gates is actively pushed by all melees getting on one side of it, such as white wurms in halls of testing. They are unstunnable due to being wurms, and we get all melee damage (incl pets) to one side and melee push them to prevent gate.

    Do you have any logs for interrupts for "an ancient guardian wurm" or "an ancient frost guardian", or "Adjutant ..." mobs in Kael? How about Tolapumj? Obviously raids won't have much problem with these, but a duo/trio box crew is going to struggle.

    Vex Thal is also going to be interesting. Is "Quellious' Word of Tranquility" only way to interrupt these mobs gating now?

    The live current functionality, is that Lull spells fail to even begin casting versus mobs who are lull immune and it gives back that unaffected message.

    On AK, as your logs show, lull goes through the full cast, lands, and THEN tells you that it doesn't work on the target.

    However these mobs should still be able to resist said lull spells and the regular resist aggro code should apply to these resists.

    Typically, mobs you are trying to lull are blue cons or lower (like the log you show) which gives them a very low chance of resisting and aggroing off the resist.

    The previous code was causing virtually all NPC spells to fail by pushing them a mere 2 units and all of them to fail if pushed 3+ units. A single cast of a level 12 wizard DD pushes two units. A single dragon punch would interrupt all NPC spells. That's super broken.

    Speaking of dragon punch (pushes 3 units with AA), I found this 2003 comment about it:

    I also checked logs for some mid-20s level NPCs. Logs are much thinner for lower level content, but the interrupt+regains rate was about equal to that of Live's for the level 12 NPC I parsed, which was about 30%. AK NPCs did have a chance to interrupt instead of regain concentration 100% though.

    It's important to note that just because a NPC is a giant or wurm model that does not mean they should be stun immune. Many NPCs of those types are stunnable.

    This is how i've always dealt with wurms and Kael healers on AK and here. Push push push push with melees and spells.

    There's no way this didn't work at all.

    I don't have logs to back this up, but I am as certain as I can be that pacify worked like this:

    1. Perform resist/critical resist check
    2. If pacify is not resisted, return "unaffected" message if target is immune or out of level range.

    So you could get a resist, or a critical resist, casting on an immune mob. The unaffected message only triggered if pacify was successful.

    I can attest to dragon punch almost never interrupting casts. It was always difficult to actually interrupt npcs as a monk. Usually had to run them oom, which will happen quicker with this change also.

    Ya I’m almost 100% sure push always worked. If push doesn’t work and a mob is above lvl 55, how else are you supposed to interrupt a lvl 55+ mobs CHs etc. I vividly remember using knockback type spells to interrupt casts. Maybe it’s that the number of units is off but I am very confident that push worked at some level

    Bash and Kick should interrupt NPC spell casts 100% of the time, even if the mob is stun immune.

    This really needs investigated. Not the "stun" chance. But interrupt chance.

    Unstunnable NPCs channeled spells pretty effectively through bashes, kicks, and a whole lot of push. You could kick, bash, and push Gorenaire halfway from the tunnel entrance to Karnor's Castle and she'd still channel 10-second CH spells as often as not.

    Thanks for the research on channeling, guys. I'm consistently amazed at how much I still have to learn about EQ, even after all these years, and at the extent our devs go to to make TAKP mechanics accurate. /bow

    Huh, I guess the interrupt is a separate roll? I'm going off memory killing those cleric mushrooms down in Sebilis, which seemed to get interrupted on every bash that landed.

    Guessing maybe the chance to interrupt is a function of mob hp or lvl?

    Sometimes it would deliver the unaffected message and mob would still aggro without the resist. It was very, very rare though. Are we not already getting the unaffected message? Some pac immune mobs are currently displaying a successful pac when there is none.

    Those shrooms are stunnable and almost all level 55 or below (0% of priests and 25% of adepts are level 56). So bash probably did interrupt most of them 100% of the time.

    I'll put back in aggro checks on immune NPCs unless I find something more definitive.

    Making me look for lulls in newer logs had me discover that our lull resist checks are too forgiving however, so I'll have to adjust that.

    As for bash interrupts: bash can still interrupt even if it doesn't stun. The function for this roll is unknown and current logic is extremely crude and based on some anecdote from an AK player in my feedback thread in 2015. It's clearly derived from NPC level and/or level difference though.

    This has long been my gut feeling, but I always figured it was biased by the fact that I was used to paccing mobs closer to my own level in PoP. In any case, this is probably a healthy change.

    While we're talking channeling, btw, I wonder how runes, push and interrupts should interact. Should melee through a rune push the runed player? Should swings absorbed by runes have a chance to interrupt? What about bashes and kicks?

    As an AK chanter main, I spent a ton of time rune tanking. My intuition is that melee through a rune shouldn't push, and (probably?) shouldn't have an interrupt chance. Of course, that intuition's based on fuzzy AK memories from many years ago. Also, a lot of the spells I cast while runed were instant! (Rune refreshes.)

    I'd love to know how this works on Live, or worked on AK.

    I don't believe runed players get pushed by melee, but they can still be interrupted even by non-bash/kick/stun melee attacks. (I would speculate that rune's no-push effect does improve your odds of channeling, but who knows.)

    They stopped you from being pushed (very helpful underwater!), and they stopped NPCs from proccing on you (since NPC hits, unlike PC hits, have to connect to have a chance to proc). They also stopped melee hits from forcing you to stand (and thus interrupting camping or spell memorization).

    They didn't prevent you from being interrupted by melee or stunned by a kick or bash, though:

    Mackal told me (the guy who did the decompile) that spells fail 100% if you're pushed more than one unit from the start of the cast. (Rashere also mentioned this, but did not mention the distance) But our older client uses integers for player location so for us it has to be somewhere between 1-2 units depending on where you're standing.

    Using ints for player location always seemed nutty to me, but packets aren't my department.

    push on players is done on the client

    That doesn't surprise me. Certainly, underwater, where the effects of NPC push are magnified, it's very, very hard to channel spells with anything hitting you at all.

    I was getting spells off underwater while testing my code. If anything I think our code is more forgiving compared to the logs I examined; but my frame rate was 60+ and I'm quite sure it was not that high for the people in the logs.
